KUFLOWSKI: It is with heavy hearts that the family wishes to announce the passing of Yvonne Elizabeth Kuflowski, with her husband by her side, at Fairview Personal Care Home on December 31, 2008 after a lengthy illness at the age of 80 years. Yvonne is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Edward; daughters: Daunna (Ralph) Sommerfeld and Drew of Winnipeg, Leanne (Shaun) Dudman, and Deena of Onanole, Manitoba; son Edward of Regina, Saskatchewan. Yvonne was predeceased by her parents Winfield and Sarah Smith and by her brother William. Yvonne was born October 26, 1928 in Toronto, Ontario. Her early years were spent in rural Ontario moving to Brandon after marrying the love of her life, Edward, in 1958. Yvonne worked as a nurse's aide for the Assiniboine Hospital, a bank teller for the Bank of Nova Scotia, a clerk for Sharp Electric and as an accounting clerk for B.M.H.C., where she made many friends. Yvonne loved her flowers, her friends, but most of all her family. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family and she cherished the time spent watching her grandchildren grow. Yvonne was a gentle soul who was always supportive and encouraging. She was a giver, not a taker and always put others before herself. Her generous spirit and witty sense of humor will always be a part of us. Yvonne's hands were seldom idle. If not busy with her flowers in the summer, then she would spend the winter months with her needle crafts. Many of these pieces became gifts to her children that will stay with us and remind us of her always. Yvonne was an avid 10-pin bowler for many years. She made many friends while bowling and enjoyed the traveling she was able to do with her ladies team. She loved the comradery and the competitions. The family would like to send a very heart felt "thank you" to the nursing staff at the Fairview Personal Care Home for the exemplary care of Yvonne and genuine compassion to the whole family over the last 20 months. With your care our wife and Mom was able to maintain her grace and dignity to the end. We will never forget this and are truly thankful. In accordance with Yvonne's wishes cremation has taken place. The Ceremony to Celebrate Yvonne's Life was held at Memories Chapel, on Monday, January 5, 2009. Mona Franklin officiated. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Yvonne may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba-Westman Region, 1-613-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G6.
