Maxine began teaching on permit in 1943 at Keyes, took her teacher's training in Winnipeg in 1944-45, and then taught at several rural schools near Neepawa and Gladstone. Maxine met Ronald Cameron Radford of Keys in 1948 and they were married in Gladstone, MB in 1952. They farmed for several years in the Keys area and moved to Gladstone in 1958. Maxine gave birth to their first two sons, Laurie and Douglas, while living in Gladstone. Ron was moved to Strathclair, MB as grain elevator agent in 1963. In 1973, Maxine and Ron moved to Rivers, MB and remained there until 2012 when they moved to Brandon.
Maxine and Ron loved to travel and took their three sons on many camping trips throughout Manitoba and western Canada. In their later years, they traveled to the Maritimes, Québec and Ontario, British Columbia and Alaska to explore and to visit family.
