Obituary

RODGERS: William "Bill" David Rodgers, beloved husband, father, stepfather and grandfather, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2000 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Bill was born July 23, 1926 in Altamont, Manitoba. He received his schooling at Alma School in Belmont, Manitoba. After being raised by his two aunts, Ella Madsen and Irene Fargey, Bill joined the Canadian Army at a young age. In 1951 he married and from this marriage had two children Frances (1953) and Murray (1955). Bill later married Karen Berry in 1978. Over the years he was employed with Western Archrib, Brandon City Transit, Dawson Cleaners (Rivers), McKenzie Seeds and the Wanless Farm. Bill retired in 1982. He was actively involved with the Swinging Seniors 10 pin bowling league, A.N.A.F. Club, and Prairie Oasis. He also served as union representative for the Brandon Transit. Bill was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed hockey and football. He was a prize winning bowler and shuffleboard player. Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Karen; daughter Frances (Ken) Van Horne; son Murray (Kathy) Rodgers; sister Irma (John) Hillis; half sisters: Marion (Gary) Skogan and Janice (Roy) Weidl; half brother Arthur (Colleen) Rodgers; stepdaughters: Janice (Dan) Connors and Bambi (Brad) Edwards; stepsons: Shawn (Deb) Berry and Jamie Berry (friend Sharla Scott). Also left to cherish Bill's memory are his grandchildren: Jeff, Kevin, Jennifer, Andrea, Katya, Leslie, Kirsten, Jamie-Lynn, Geoff, Mitchell, Meagan, Matthew and Nathan; and great-grandson Jordan. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Allen and step mother Esther Rodgers. The ceremony to celebrate Bill's life was held at Memories Chapel on August 21, 2000. Arlene Robertson and Mona Franklin officiated. Special music selection, "I Will Remember You", was sung by granddaughters Kirsten and Jamie-Lynn with guitar accompaniment by son Murray and grandson Jeff. A private family interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers were: Tom McCormack, Keith Fargey, Rudy Stritz, Barry Good, Greg Wanless, and Grant McCausland. Jeff Van Horne and Kevin Van Horne served as urn bearers. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415 - 1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8.
