ROBBINS: The death of William "Bill" Robbins, beloved father of Brian James and William Bruce, occurred at Valleyview Care Centre on Saturday, December 13, 2008. Bill was born in 1929 at Deloraine, Manitoba and received most of his schooling in Deloraine. Bill, his mother and younger brother, moved to Souris in 1942. Bill worked on the Rural Electrification Program for Manitoba Power Commission (now Manitoba Hydro) from 1948 to December 1952. After a short leave of absence, he returned to Manitoba Hydro in September 1953. October 1956 to April 1970, was spent with electrical maintenance in St. James and Fort Garry. In April 1970, Bill accepted a position with the construction department in Brandon. He retired in June 1993, after forty years of service with Manitoba Hydro. Bill was a member of the Manitoba Hydro X Club, serving as secretary for two years. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers, where he earned his Past Counselors Pin (six years executive board). He was also chairman of the UCT Travo Bingo for three years, and float chairman for the Traveler's Day Parade for three years. Bill enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing and bingo. Bill was predeceased by Irene, his loving wife of forty-six years; his mother and father; four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his sons, Brian James (Carol), four grandchildren and one great grandchild; William Bruce (Michelle) and two grandchildren; one sister; one brother and numerous nephews and nieces. A time of viewing will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The Ceremony to Celebrate Bill's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Mona Franklin will officiate. A private family interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium.
