William Francis "Parky" Parkin, of Forrest, beloved husband of May, passed away with his loving family at his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, August 19, 2000. "Parky" was the only child of Frederick and Mildred Parkin. He grew up and lived his entire life in the Glanton community. Parky leaves to mourn, his wife May; son Dennis of Calgary; daughter Linda and Jack Martin of Portage; son David and Carol Parkin of Forrest. Grampa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Rhonda (George) Eisener, Steven and Michael Martin; Amber and Sean Parkin and by great grandson, Jayvis Eisener. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law: Ethel Meadows, Evelyn and Art Cleaver, Cecil and Jean Meadows, Marion and Bruce Cleaver as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Parkin was predeceased by his parents; father and mother-in-law Cecile and Edith Meadows; and a brother-in-law Ward Meadows. William Francis Parkin was born January 2, 1921 in Brandon. During his early years at school, he acquired the nickname, "Parky" which has remained with him since. Educated at Glanton and Gourlay Schools, Parky was always interested in sports, whether as a player, a coach or an umpire on the baseball diamond. He played and coached the Moore Park fastball team. He made many friends and many memories. Parky enjoyed hunting and curling. He participated in many bonspiels around the area. Parky enjoyed hunting from a young age, but he especially enjoyed hunting with his two sons and son-in-law. When he no longer hunted, he patiently waited to hear about the days hunt. In Parky's later years he treasured the grandchildren's activities, whether driving them or watching their accomplishments. Parky was very active in the community, serving on the Forrest Rink Board, Forrest United Church, Justice Pool Board, Glanton Community Club and the Glanton School board. His community spirit was surpassed only by his generosity and his willingness to lend a hand to a friend and neighbor when needed. Parky took over the farm from his father in 1945 and on November 23, 1945 married May Meadows. In 1992, the homestead became a Century Farm. The funeral ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers were: Allan Meadows, Garth Meadows, Kevin Meadows, Keith Cleaver, Herb Sharpley and Gregg Phillips. Interment followed in the family plot in the Humesville cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mr. Parkin to a charity of choice. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
