LINSKI: Lieutenant William (Bill) Linski May 16, 1940 - December 15, 2007. The last alarm rang at 3:00 pm for Lieutenant Bill Linski, unsung hero of thirty-four years with the City of Brandon Fire Department. Retiring January 1999, Bill remained true to his Brotherhood, extremely proud of his chosen career and his "men". With an honour guard of firefighters and flashing lights, our Bill was escorted by his beloved fire trucks to his final resting place in the Brandon Municipal Cemetery on December 21, 2007. Bill's courageous nine year battle with complications from renal failure, diabetes, amputations and pneumonia ended peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, British Columbia, on December 15, 2007. Beloved husband and soulmate for 43 years of Gwen (Harbottle), Bill leaves daughter, Brandi-Lee (Collin) Gruninger, granddaughter, Nyla Belle (Edmonton) and son Todd (Castlegar, British Columbia). Survived by sister Ann Lavallie, Mike (Joyce) and Steve (Hope) Linski (Brandon), sister Pat (Trenton, Ontario), numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companions, Kody and KC. Predeceased by children Robbie (4 yrs) and Angela Dawn (8 days) in 1972, stillborn son David (1971), and nephew Brett Leganchuck (18 yrs) in 2000. Bill was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend who will be terribly missed by all who knew him. Memorial services were held at McCall Bros. Funeral Home (Victoria, British Columbia) reception following at their family home on December 18th, and Memories Chapel (Brandon, Manitoba) with reception at ANAF Unit #10, of which Bill was a member for 46 years. Bill was also an active member and strong supporter of the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Survivors and The Compassionate Friends of Canada. The family extends a sincere thanks and appreciation to our Renal Home Dialysis family, nephrologist Dr. Ganz, the Royal 1 nursing staff and Kidney Foundation. Special thanks to our friends and neighbors at the Krisineleos Complex for organizing the Victoria reception, and to Cindy Brownlee, family and friends for preparing the reception at the ANAF (Brandon) and the participating firefighters honour guard. Special thanks to Mona Franklin for officiating and nephew, Mark Linski, for leading us on a journey of memories; to soloists Suzanne Koop (Brandon), Kayla Weber and Rene Gullich (Victoria), and photographer, Jeff Morrison (Victoria) for creating the memorial DVD. Pallbearers were Kurt and Leo Boyko, Mark and Todd Linski, Collin Gruninger and Herb Leir. Your flowers, cards, phone calls, visits and condolences comforted us - thank you. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Bill's name to The Compassionate Friends of Canada Unit #26 4270 Ponderosa Cres, Victoria, British Columbia, V8Z 7H3 or Renal Home Dialysis Program 1952 Bay St. Victoria, V8R 1J8.
There's a special place in Heavenfor the firefighters who leave this Earth. It's their final reward for never receivingwhat they were really worth. We sing of a mansion we'll go to,in the sweet bye and bye.But their place is more than a mansion;it's the firehouse in the sky.
