LAMONT: William Stewart Lamont of Brandon passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, January 15, 2004. Stewart was born in Lauder Manitoba on November 21, 1921 to John and Nellie Lamont. As Stewart grew up, the family farmed in Lauder, Rignold and south of Bagot. He developed a love for farming and enjoyed being a part of the thrashing teams. During the winters of his youth, he worked in the bush camps of Northern Ontario. Farming and forestry were two passions that stayed with Stewart for the rest of his life. In 1954, Stewart married June Forsyth, and together moved to Richmond, B.C. He drove buses for the B.C. Transit System. While they were in Richmond, Robert and Scott were born. The love of farming took the family back to the prairies in 1959, where daughter Leslie was later born. The family continued to farm until 1967 when they moved to Brandon, their son William arrived soon after. Stewart held various jobs: Manco Dairies, the Agricultural Research Station and DND in Shilo until his retirement in 1985. Throughout his life, Stewart pursued many interests in horticultural and agricultural fields. Wherever Stewart lived, he tilled soil, planted gardens and harvested food to feed the family. Stewart left his mark by planting hundreds of trees on the sites he homesteaded and took pride in nursing them from seedlings to full-grown trees. Stewart enjoyed fruit trees and experimenting with grafting different varieties. In addition to the gardening, he was also an accomplished wood-worker and carpenter - building projects both large and small. If something wasn't working, Stewart could create the thing-a-ma-jig to solve the problem. He was a pioneer at heart. Stewart was predeceased by his parents John and Nellie; and siblings Margaret, Murray and Helen. He is survived by: his wife June and four children; Robert (Kathy), their children Pat and Jen, Scott (Louise), their children Adam, Ryan and Stephanie, Leslie (Jerry) Dias, children Rebecca and Jordan, William (Jane) and their children Ellen and Ben. Stewart is also survived by his brothers Donald (Jean), and James (Isabel) as well as many nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at Redeemer Lutheran on Monday, January 19th, 2004.Pastor Ted Jannuska officiated.
