BLACK: With sadness the family announce the passing of William McEwing Black on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at the Tiger Hills Health Centre, Treherne, Manitoba, peacefully, with his children by his side. William was born on the family farm near Douglas, Manitoba on December 28, 1905, the eldest of seven children born to Thomas and Mary Jane Black. He was engaged in farming throughout his life from early years as a child to the operation of his own farm and extended into his retirement with his son-in-law. William was an active member in his community and a willing worker on any project large or small. He served on the Douglas Hall Committee, Douglas United Church Board, Norman Community Club, Creeford Carin Committee, Brookdale Good Neighbors and was an active member of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum at Austin. William's family was the most important part of his life. He was a faithful loving husband and exempletory father. He spent many hours with his two children, caring for and supporting them in every way he could. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He adored them with pride and will be ever remembered with love by each one of them. His little great grandson provided many enjoyable moments as well. He enjoyed many good times in the company of neighbors and friends in the communities of Norman, Ingelow, Brookdale, Justice and Douglas. He also enjoyed curling, gardening, playing cards, music and reading. William is survived by his son Bruce (Deborah) Black; daughter Audrey (Bill) McCreery; grandchildren: Ryan and Carson Black, Caleigh and Tierney McCreery, and great grandson Brayden; brothers Lloyd and Gordon Black; many nieces, nephew and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy; brothers Howard and Oz; sisters Luella and Gweneth; and brother-in-law Bill. The ceremony to celebrate William's life will be held at the Douglas United Church on Friday, September 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Madford Cemetery.
