Obituary

The death of Wesley Thomas "Wes" Howe, beloved husband of Jean, dear father of Carole and Larry, occurred at Central Park Lodge on Tuesday, November 21, 2000. Wes was born on February 22, 1910 in Elgin, Manitoba, the eldest of six children of Frank and Ethel Howe. He was raised on a farm in the Elgin area and later moved to the Neepawa area. During the Depression, Wes travelled throughout the United States Midwest custom combining, and in the 40's, worked in a mine in Ontario. He returned to Manitoba to build roads as a Heavy Machine Operator. He was later hired by Graham-Martin Implements and Mazer Implements as a Farm Implement Mechanic. When he met Jean in 1947, he was working as an elevator agent. Wes and Jean were married in 1948, and together they built a house on Dennis Street in Brandon in the early 50's where they lived for the next 48 years. Wes enjoyed ice fishing and gardening. He was devoted to his family and friends. In his later years he loved being surrounded by his family on special occasions. Wes is survived by his wife, Jean, of 52 years, his daughter, Carole (Ray) of Brandon, his son, Larry (Brenda) of Regina. There are five grandchildren: Ryan, Shaun, Angela, Kim and Connor and three great grandchildren, Alexander, Arianna, and Analynne. Wes is also survived by one sister, Martha (Pat) Louttit of Souris. The ceremony to Celebrate Wes' Life was held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Friday, November 24, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Don Hudson officiated. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
