Obituary

WATCHORN: The death of Wendell Stanley Watchorn occurred peacefully at his residence in Brandon on Friday, August 12, 2005. Wendell was born at Minnedosa, Manitoba on May 6, 1947, son of Gordon and Lucille Watchorn. Wendell attended elementary and high schools in Minnedosa. As a young man he enjoyed sports and meeting people. He later attended Assiniboine Community College, where he took a Farm Mechanics course. Wendell farmed the family farm until 1983, when he moved to Brandon. He worked for Mazer Implements as a salesman. This continued until the spring of 2000, when he went to sell for Toromont Caterpillar. Wendell was a people person. His interests followed his children's activities. He volunteered for many years on various figure skating committees while the children were growing up. He also coached high school volleyball and basketball in Minnedosa. In later years, his favorite pastime was, "being a grandpa." Even though he was ill, Wendell recently completed a cabin, building it from "swamp to finish', a grand child's dream. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, "Tiger", Chris Ann; daughter, Karrie (Kent) Smyth and their children, Carter and Taylor; son Roger (Leanna) and their children, Brendon, Carly and Ty; and son David. Wendell also leaves; sisters, Linda (Don) Young, Cheryl (Dennis) Brugger and brother, Brent (Mary) Watchorn. There are nine nieces and nephews and their families. He also leaves his mother and father-in-law, Kay and David Wagner. Wendell was predeceased by; his father, Gordon, mother, Lucille and a sister Karen. A time of visitation for family and friends was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, August 16, 2005. The Funeral Ceremony was held at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Wednesday, August 17, 2005. Pastor Robert Drumm and Pastor Dan Pearson officiated. Active and honorary pallbearers were: Bruce and Debbie Curtis, Wayne and Debbie Charles, Jack and Mary Edwards, Doug and Louise Ott, Lloyd and Doris Anderson, Gary and Louise Boyd. Graveside and interment service was held at the Smoland Cemetery, at Minnedosa, followed by at time of fellowship and refreshment at the Minnedosa Conference Centre. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Wendell to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
