David 'Wayne' Phillips, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. Born on June 26, 1947, in Minnedosa, Manitoba, he was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Robert Phillips.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn; children Tracy (Dan) Masse, Jason (Sarah) Phillips, and Stephanie (Richard) Bridges; grandchildren Jace, Judah, Darius, and Jacob; brothers Delmer (Carol) and Gerald (Shawna); sister-in-law Darlene (Les) Schirmacher; along with many nieces, nephews, and his loyal dogs Josie, Marley, and Bronco.
Growing up on the family farm, Wayne developed a love for nature, family, and hard work. In 1965, he met Marilyn, and together they created a life filled with family memories, faith, compassion, and generosity. Over his 40-year career with the City of Brandon, Wayne left a lasting impact, not only through his work but also through his active role in the community. From serving as a Boys Club leader and church board member, to founding the 2 p.m. coffee club, Wayne was always busy living life. He was eager to lend a hand and played a key role in various building and renovation projects for family and friends. He was also truly in his happy place at their cabin on Pelican Lake, where he enjoyed the community and hosting family and friends. It didn't matter how the day unfolded, there was always time for coffee and friends.
Wayne loved spending time with his family and had a playful spirit that kept him young at heart. He was always ready for an activity, whether water skiing in his 70's, or pulling kids on endless tube rides. His encouraging nature, patient disposition and dedication to others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Wayne's spirit lives on through the lessons he taught us – how to stay calm in adversity, to step up and serve, and to appreciate the simple joys in life. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and of a life well lived.
