Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wayne Rene Bauche on September 30, 2021, with his wife Shannon by his side.

Wayne was born on August 28, 1957, the fourth of seven children. Wayne grew up in the Brandon area and met Shannon, the love of his life, through Special Olympics. He was a loving and caring husband, and we are grateful they were able to spend so many happy years together. Wayne was an extraordinary Special Olympian and had the benefit of exemplary coaching that led him to participate in cross-country skiing events at the Paralympic Winter Games in Nagano (1998), Lillehammer (1994) and Special Olympics World Winter Games, Austria (1993). As Wayne got older, he moved away from skiing but continued to enjoy playing other sports competing both locally and nationally with Special Olympics. Whatever Wayne did it was done with Shannon; they were a team and very rarely did you see one without the other. They enjoyed bowling and playing golf, soccer, and floor hockey together.

As a youngster, Wayne loved to spend time at the Druwe family farm in Grande Clairiere where he was encouraged to perform any task to the very best of his abilities, this is where he developed the self-confidence and courage to operate farm equipment and learned to drive a vehicle which he was very passionate about. The farm also instilled in him the life skills of working hard and sharing responsibilities which he carried throughout his life. This is also where Wayne developed his sense of humor as his extended family affectionately interacted with him. The Bauche family is indebted to the Grande Clairiere farming community for welcoming Wayne as one of their own. He was loved by many in the community.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shannon and their cat Carmine; his mother Ann-Marie Bauche; brothers Frank (Debbie); Bob (Darlene); Mike (Lanney); sisters Gisele (Michael); Evelyn; in-laws Dale and Sharon Hermanson, brother-in-law Craig and sister-in-law Shelley (Patrick) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his father Arthur and brother Mark (infant).

In keeping with Wayne's wishes, cremation is to follow, and a celebration of life will be arranged at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Special Olympics Manitoba in Wayne's memory, www.specialolympics.mb.ca/ways-to-give/donate.

Wayne's character in life allowed him to handle his trials and tribulations not only with courage but also with grace; his brief illness was no exception. Rest in peace, Wayne, until we meet again.
