Obituary

WENGER: Wally Wenger, born on May 12, 1929 in Brandon, passed away suddenly on August 15, 2000 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Wally's life journey included working in a toy factory, railroad, bakery and barbering--which he turned into a flourishing career spanning over 40 years. As a barber/stylist, those who frequented his shop enjoyed his lively, engaging conversation and his patrons always left with more that just a haircut. Family life began with a marriage to Maxine and the birth of three sons and a daughter. In earlier years, Wally enjoyed camping, swimming in the river, canoeing and archery. More recently, his love of nature has been evidenced by frequent trips to Garth's farm to help with the outdoor chores and his gardening at Sokol Manor. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching old movies, listening to music, and writing quotable quotes. Wally was active in the community. He was a member of AA's, church organizations and Knights of Columbus. Anyone who had met Wally will know that he was a giving, caring person who was always willing to help others. Wally was also very dedicated to the Catholic religion and his faith. It was this deep faith that gave him strength and peace in times of struggle and hardship. Wally was predeceased by his father Theodore in 1944; his mother Francis in 1997 and his brother Freddie in 1997. Wally is survived by his four children and their families: Garth (Vicki) Wenger and children KristiAnn and Bo of Brandon, MB, Eric (Carla) Wenger and children Niki and Ben of Winnipeg, MB, Craig (Lori) Wenger and children Mathew and Ryan of St. Albert, AB, Joy (Tony) Aelbers and children Casey and Darcy of North Delta, BC. He is also survived by his 3 sisters: Bea (Mel) Ferguson, Mary (Al) Ungarian and Helen (Nick) Holub. While Wally's life journey took him to places such as Toronto, Alberta, British Columbia, and California, his final journey has taken him into the arms of the Lord. Prayers were said at Memories Chapel on Friday evening. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, August 19 at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Rainerio Sarce as celebrant. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Wally may be made to a charity of choice.
