The death of Walter Pestyk, age 100, occurred at his residence, Central Park Lodge on Saturday, November 9, 2002. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, November 15, 2002 at 10:30 am. Complete obituary information will follow. The death of Walter Pestyk, aged 100 years, occurred at his residence, Central Park Lodge on Saturday, November 9, 2002. Walter was born December 23, 1901 in the Province of Bucovina, in the city of Chernivtsi, Austria. His father John and the two brothers, Victor and Walter were shoemakers there. Walter's brother Victor immigrated to Canada, to Sothey, Saskatchewan in 1924 and Walter later joined him in 1926. The two brothers and their families lived in Sothey until 1940, where they owned and operated the "Shoe and Harness Repair" shop. In 1940 they moved to Brandon and worked for a company that manufactured Tackaberry Hockey Boots. The brothers started getting orders from across Western Canada, the United States and Europe. In 1974 they won an award of Excellence from the Province of Manitoba. In the early 1970's they sold their business, but continued to work a shoe repair shop until 1986. Walter lived with his son Roman from 1986 to 1996. In 1996, Walter moved into Central Park Lodge due to health problems. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, November 15, 2002 at 10:30 am. Fr. Polatajko and Fr. Tukhan will officiate. The family wishes to thank the staff at Central Park Lodge for the care their father received during his time there. They would also like to thank the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for their help in celebrating Walter's 100th birthday.
