THORLEIFSON: Violet May "Bergie" Thorleifson passed away at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on April 30, 2000. Bergie was born in Leifer, Manitoba on July 3, 1928 to Karl and Lillie Bergson. She grew up in Langruth, Manitoba where she met and married Herb Thorleifson. In 1952 Herb enlisted into the Royal Canadian Air Force and they moved their family to Chatham, New Brunswick. During Herb's Air Force career they also lived in Marville, France; Downsview, Ontario; Rivers, Manitoba and at Camp Borden, Ontario. Bergie loved playing softball, bowling and excelled at both sports. She also treasured the many years she and husband Herb spent golfing. In 1973 Herb retired from the Forces and they moved to Brandon. Bergie worked at various jobs over the years. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 in Brandon and enjoyed the activities and camaraderie there. She loved life and loved people. Her friendly and outgoing personality endeared her to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Bergie is survived by her daughter Sylvia and husband Dennis Stiles of Brandon; daughter Debbie and husband Cal Patterson of Wasaga Beach, Ontario; grandchildren: Chad and Corrie Lynn of Brandon, Becky, Bradley and Haley of Wasaga Beach. Also surviving are her brother Carl Bergson of St. Francois Xavier; sister Svava (Les) Arksey of Langruth; sisters-in-law Edna Lovett of Sun City, CA and Thora Gunnlaugson of Baldur. She was predeceased by her parents Karl and Lillie Bergson; husband Herb; son Oli; granddaughter Carly Patterson; and sister Nellie Carson. Funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on May 4, 2000. Interment followed in the Langruth Cemetery.
