GOWING: Violet Eileen Gowing of Manhattan Beach, Ninette passed away on Monday, October 13, 2003. Eileen was born in Angusville, MB on June 4, 1917 the daughter of Tom and Bessie Pearson. The family lived in various Manitoba communities, due to the fact that Eileen's father was a minister, such as. Swan River, Beresford, Holland, Belmont, Gilbert Plains, Shoal Lake and Brandon. Eileen graduated from Belmont High School in 1936, then Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and in 1967 she graduated from the University of Alberta with her Public Health Degree. She met her future husband, George Raymond Gowing, and they were married at the Belmont United Church on May 23, 1942. They celebrated 61 years together living in Brandon, MB, Cardston, AB, Inuvik, NWT and Edmonton, AB before retiring to Manhattan Beach at Pelican Lake, for the last 25 years. They spent winters in Hawaii and traveled the Pacific Rim to Australia and trips made to England and France were also enjoyed. Many memorable summers were spent at the lake with the children, grandchildren and many friends. Eileen belonged to the Belmont Historical Society, Legion Auxiliary, and various Anglican Women's groups in Brandon, Cardston, Inuvik and Edmonton. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, hostess, decorator, seamstress, cook, Sunday School teacher, historian and gardener. Eileen enjoyed playing the piano and organ, theatre, poetic literature, swimming, softball, tennis, golf and curling. She is survived by her husband Ray Gowing; daughter Chauna Maier; twin sons Blake & Blain Gowing; 10 grandchildren, niece Dianne Harley and nephew Darcy Gowing. She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Bessie Pearson, son Brian Gowing and sister Myra Pearson. The service will be held at Christ Church, Belmont, MB on Friday, October 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Warren Marsh will officiate. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Honorary Bearers will be Brandon Gowing, Renee Gowing, Shanley Maier, Chris Gowing, Danielle Gowing, Charissa Farmer, Kevin Maier, Tasha Gowing and Charlene Maier. Flowers are gratefully declined.
