TAIT: Vilda Irene Tait (Metcalfe) (Dewar) passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, May 11, 2007. Vilda was the first child born to James and Winnie Metcalfe. She was born on a farm half way between Carroll and Souris, Manitoba. Her early school years were spent at Carroll. She attended the remainder of her school years at Nesbitt, Manitoba. After graduation from high school she worked for a few years to earn money to take her nurse's training. This she did at Souris Hospital, graduating from the RN program in 1941. In July of 1942, she married Archibald Dewar of Souris. Two daughters, Diane and Heather were born there. The family then moved to Brandon in 1950. Vilda returned to her nursing profession following Archie's death in 1953. She nursed in the Brandon General Hospital, on maternity, until accepting a position as night supervisor at the T.B. Sanatorium in Brandon. She continued in that position when it became the Assiniboine Hospital, until she retired in the early 70's. She married Robert Joseph Tait on May 4, 1970. She and Bob spent many happy years wintering in Vernon, British Columbia until moving there in the late 1980's. Vilda was very active in Knox Presbyterian Church in Vernon. She was President of the WMS and took part in bible study groups. In 2003, they returned to Brandon where they resided at Riverheights Terrace. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Bob; daughters Diane (Hank) Weenink of Brandon, Heather (Glen) Shelton of Kemnay; grandchildren who hold cherished memories are: Trevor Weenink of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Anthony (Kirsten) Weenink of Winnipeg, Brent (Susan) Shelton of Lethbridge, Alberta, Jennifer Shelton (Brett Rystaphanick) of Kemnay and Ray (Micah) Shelton of Lac la Biche, Alberta and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Metcalfe of Cochrane, Alberta and Grant Metcalfe of St. Albert, Alberta and sister-in-law Margaret Watt of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Ross Metcalfe. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. The Rev. Paul Sakasov of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Vilda to a charity of choice.
