Victor Frank Krahn, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 30, 2024, at Brandon Regional Health Centre.
He was born May 24, 1952, in Killarney Manitoba but lived and went to school in Cartwright before moving to Winnipeg at age 12. His childhood included many hours and memories on his grandpa's farm south of Holmfield, later learning from his Uncle Art how to raise chickens. He married Lois on August 3, 1975, in Brandon Manitoba. Vic worked for a roofing company in Winnipeg before moving to Alexander to farm with the Pries family. Near Alexander, the family grain farm was established and worked from 1976 through 1987. This then turned into farming on the side, with Vic, Lois, and the girls raising chickens, turkeys and even pheasants for many years. His favorite times were making new friends selling and delivering chickens. Over the years Vic worked as a carpenter, construction worker, and tin basher on many job sites from homes in Brandon, to a bridge in Mafeking, to commercial projects in southwestern Manitoba, even going back to his roots in Cartwright working on the local stone church.
Known for his love of car racing and NASCAR, he never missed a chance to go to the races and spent countless weekends cheering on his favorite drivers and sharing his passion with others. This love of car racing led to a love of all things fast, from go carts, to dirt bikes to his favorite, the ski-doo. Family, and those he knew well, will surely have a story or two about some of his wild driving.
He had a knack for talking to people, passed down from his mom. It didn't matter if it was a pop in visit or catching up with old friends around town. He just loved to talk, and he loved people.
Vic loved to go for rides, so living out of town gave ample opportunity to tour the countryside, along with road trips with his sibling, and with his daughter Chanlie living in BC he was happy to make the drive twice a year. The trip was a highlight for him and possibly his favorite was the designated stops along the way, primarily focused on getting from one Tim Hortons to the next. Coffee never tasted that good at home but was a delicacy he enjoyed at Tim's.
Vic died following a long battle with a brain tumor. He is survived by his wife Lois; his mom Mary Krahn; brothers Grant Krahn, Dennis Krahn (Jacquie); sisters Mary Jane Wiebe (Darrel), Ruth Krahn; brothers in law Brian Pries (Ang); sisters in law Marilyn Reimer (Wayne), Sandra Pries (Pete); daughters Jennifer Ross (Jeff), Christine McCorrister (Dennis), Chanlie McIntyre (Chris); grandchildren Caleb, Halle, Morgan, Peyton, Mac, Dawson, Kalon; and many extended family members. He is predeceased by his dad Frank Krahn; sister in law Karen Krahn; brother in law Albert Pries; mother in law Wilma Pries.
