Obituary

It is with great sadness that our family announces at the young age of 98 years, the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. On Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, after a short stay, Victor entered Heaven to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, and this gives our family much Joy & Peace within our sadness.

Victor is survived by the love of his life of 69 years Simone; children Normand (Elaine), Gina (Brent), Suzette (Darryl), Martial (Marie), Christiane (Daryl); grandchildren Dawn (Mike), Jason (Karen), Crystal, Amanda (Shawn), Ryan (Larissa), Natalie, Stefan; great grandchildren Samuel, Nathaniel, Mischa, Maison, Shayla, Olivia, Parker & newest addition baby George; numerous close nieces & nephews who were like his own.

Victor was predeceased by his cherished son Alain and his parents Exaverie & Sidonie. Victor was the tenth child of thirteen children, who are all predeceased.

Victor was born in the family home on the farm in St. Elizabeth, MB. Victor was a strong, tall, young man and at the age of 16, Victor left the family farm to begin working in a gold mine in Ontario for several years, but his love of farming brought him back home to St. Elizabeth where he enjoyed working side by side with his brother Emile for many years.

It was during this time that he stole the heart of a beautiful young lady named Simone, with his striking good looks, charm and quick wit, and his ability to serenade her with his beautiful Frank Sinatra/Bing Crosby style voice!!

Victor and Simone were married in Mariapolis and soon started a family of 3 boys and 3 girls. They loved the farm life, but unfortunately for health reasons, Victor needed to change his farming occupation.

Victor and Simone entered into the hospitality business for many years and worked side by side for many long hours before retiring to Brandon, MB.

Victor loved all sports including watching hockey, baseball and boxing, enjoyed jogging and his in-home punching bag to keep in shape. He instilled physical fitness and its importance to each of his children.

He especially loved to play baseball and was still sliding into home plate in his 80's! He finished his baseball "career" as an umpire.

Victor's Christian Catholic Faith had he and Simone attending St. Augustines Parish faithfully on Sundays. They were regular ushers and supporters of their church, and Victor especially enjoyed a breakfast brunch with family after church.

Victor loved his home. He and Simone tended lovingly to their garden, trees, flowers and beautiful yard, with Vic's pristine lawn always the envy of the neighborhood.

Victor's family and friends were spoiled with endless homemade food, fun, laughter and love at their home.

Rest Papa, you are with God in His Home Now.

Our family is truly unable to express in words our gratitude, thanks, and amazement to ALL those who have been a part of Victor's short health care journey. To Dr. A. Akerele and the Brandon Clinic staff, Tammy Bertrand, community nurse, ER Dr. A De Bruyn and all the ER nurses and staff, Dr. K. Connelly on the palliative care unit, Melissa Peters, Palliative Care Coordinator, Father John Okosun, Spiritual Care Joe Ball for their compassion, to the amazing palliative care nurses, health care aides and all disciplines of staff, we wish we could mention you all by name. Just know you are all truly Angels here on earth, and we hope and pray after each person and family you meet like ours; we wish you complete rest & rejuvenation and peace for all the compassionate and selfless acts of care you provided to Victor and our family. Gods Blessings to you all! We just can't mention all the special moments during a difficult time, sincere thanks.
