Vera Lawrie Borland, formerly of Virden and recently of Brandon, passed away at her residence, Rideau Park Personal Care Home, on Wednesday, December 19, 2001. Vera was born on April 9, 1906, in Crandall, Manitoba, daughter of the late Jane and William Johnston. The Johnston family farmed in the Crandall area. Vera was educated at the Crandall School and also attended Normal School. She met and married Bill Coburn and they resided in the Crandall area until his death. Vera later married Ed Borland and they resided in Virden. She taught school in the Crandall area for a number of years, and was a newspaper correspondent for the local newspapers in the Hamiota and Miniota areas. She moved to Brandon in 1998. Vera is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, William Coburn and Edward Borland; brothers, Russell; Lloyd; and Garnet; and sister, Ethel Marr. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dorrie Flook will officiate. Interment will follow at the Crandall Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Vera may be made to a charity of choice.
