Velma Stothard, age 85 years, of Brandon, MB passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Fairview Home. Agnes "Velma" Pollock was born on December 13, 1936 in Brandon, where she lived her entire life. While working at Eaton's, Velma met her soul mate, Jack Stothard, and they were married on May 18, 1957. In addition to raising a wonderful family with her husband, Velma worked for Home Care in Brandon from 1977 until her retirement in 2001. Velma's interests included embroidery, Disney collectables and a devotion to animals and wildlife. She was also a great baker - Nana's pancakes were a breakfast-time favourite for her grandchildren. No one could ever recreate her recipes, as they never tasted like Nana's; one ingredient was always missing - her love. Velma was a kindhearted soul with a heart of gold, a characteristic that was inherited by and instilled upon her children and grandchildren. Velma was predeceased, by only 58 days, by her loving husband Jack as well as her brother-in-law, Ken. She is survived by her daughters: Debbie (Don) and Kim (Nigel), grandchildren: Kristen (Chase), Ryan, Matthew (Courtney) and Regan (Marlo), and great grandchildren: Brielle and Hudson. Velma is also survived by her sister: Leona, nephews: Kevin and Dale (Dawn) and niece: Laurie (Al), as well as several cousins. Velma was a loving wife, mother, Nana and Great Nana, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends who all have fond memories of her. The family would like to thank the 2nd Floor staff and Dr. Davis for the excellent care provided to both Velma and Jack while they were residents at Fairview Home. A joint private memorial service for Jack and Velma will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Velma may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
