MORGAN: Peacefully, with his family by his side, Richard "Ri" passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Assiniboine Centre (BRHC) in Brandon at the age of 76 years. Ri leaves to mourn Vicki (nee Reid), his wife of more than 52 years; son Jody / Irma (Evan, Jordan); son Mark / Donna (Richard); daughter Reva / Stan Kowalchuk (Ben); son Hugh / Anita (Robert, Ryan, Vicki); and great-granddaughter Alexys. He is also survived by sister-in-law Catherine Morgan, Aunt Vi Best, Aunt Gwen Best, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Whether known as Dad, Grandpa or Papa, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild always knew they had a special place in his heart. Ri was predeceased by his father George, mother Lillian, brother Ike, and grandson Mitchell. Ri lived all his life in Brandon. Following high school, he began working full-time for the Manitoba Power Commission / Manitoba Hydro, retiring in 1993 after completing more than 45 years of employment. Throughout his life, he met many people that became lasting friends. After marriage, Ri & Vicki became active members of Circle 8 Square Dancers Club. Ri was quite involved with Toastmasters Club 293, the Rotary Club of Brandon, and Brandon Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, cryptograms, and honing his lexical ability. Always learning new skills, Ri showcased his many talents by building both homes where he and Vicki raised their family in Brandon's East End. Camping, and family vacations by car to destinations including Los Angeles, Colorado, Vancouver, Montreal and the Maritimes were always special. In 1983, Ri & Vicki flew (for the first time and only because he could not drive there) to England, and continued on to visit the birthplace of his father in Cardiff, Wales. He always enjoyed driving on the 'Wrong Side of the Road'! They returned several times to England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, visiting Portadown where his mother was born. When his health began to fail, they no longer were able to travel overseas. In spite of that, Ri kept in touch with the many relatives and friends that they had met in Great Britain. After retiring, Ri began doing genealogical research for people seeking their ancestry in the Westman region. In so doing, he added another dimension to his life as he gained more friends and acquaintances. A funeral service celebrating Ri's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday January 18th, 2007 at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, Brandon, Manitoba. Following the service, a time of fellowship is planned. The staff of the BRHC Renal Unit, the Palliative Care nurses & staff from A300 of the Assiniboine Centre, and Dr. Riche all provided excellent care to Ri during his last year, for which our family will be eternally grateful. At the request of Ri's family, flowers are graciously declined. Relatives and friends may choose to remember Ri with a donation to the BRHC Foundation for Renal Dialysis Research, or to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy and tributes may be left at the Memories Chapel website at www.memorieschapel.com . Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
