TOWN: Thomas Stanley Town "Buster or Gus" passed away at Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at the age of 89 years. He will be missed by his children, Murray (Monique) of Ottawa, Marlene (Andre) Brichon of Brandon, Cam (Colleen) of Erickson and Sherry (Joe) Moskven of Brandon; his grandchildren, Mark and Cam Brichon, James and Scott Town, Christina Kinney, Mark and Jean Paul Town, Michelle Mordy, Nicolle Moskven and Hali Dangelat; and twelve (soon to be fourteen) great grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his sisters, Grace (Albert) Page and Stella Mosey; brother, Robert (Betty), many nieces and nephews and by special friend, Vera Shoemaker. Buster was born in Brandon on January 24, 1915 the son of Richard "Dick" and Winnifred Town. His father started up Town & Sons (later Town Bros.) Market Garden and eventually purchased an area of land along the Assiniboine between 1st St. N and 6th St. North. "Bus", along with his brothers Robert and Jim were a familiar sight around Brandon for many years driving their red mail trucks or delivering vegetables from the family market garden to local grocery stores and residents. Some Brandonites may still remember waiting for motorcycle rides with Bus at mailboxes around the city. Buster married Lillian Stothard in 1938 and together they had four children. He lobbied hard to improve the north end of Brandon and was influential in the building of the North End Community Centre. He was president of the community association for several years and volunteered countless hours to the Centre so kids could skate, play broomball and take part in cubs, brownies and other meaningful activities. In his later years he enjoyed calling bingo there. Enjoying the outdoors was an important part of his life. This particularly included camping at Manipogo, Clear Lake, Otter Lake and countless trips to any area in Manitoba rumored to have good fishing. The family wish to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Fairview Personal Care Home for the compassionate care given to our father. A tea was held, for family and friends, in remembrance of Gus at the North End Community Centre on Monday, June 21, 2004. A private family graveside service was held.
