DAVIES, Thomas Albert: On Wednesday, March 8, 2006, Tom passed away suddenly, but not without fighting to the end. He left this earth not alone, but surrounded by his family and the great love they all had for him. Tom was born in Brandon on June 12, 1933, the son of Tom and Emily Davies. This made a family of four children, Tom and his sisters, Auriel, Joan and Janice. He was struck with polio at two years of age and after many years on crutches, taught himself to walk again. He attended Alexandra and Earl Haig Schools. While he attended school, he and his best friend, Dick Silliker, had a habit of finding more important things to do than go to school. He started working in his early teens, which was common in those days, and although not highly educated, he was a very smart man. He met the love of his life, Sheila, when they were both working at Milco Electric where they were both welding. They were married on October 4, 1952. Into their lives came four children, Maureen, Michael, Mark and Tom Jr. Although times were hard, this family actually lived on love. Tom never let his disability hold him down. He spent most of his life driving. It began with the "big trucks" for Redlick Boat and Trailer, Zenith Paving and Overland Construction. When his leg gave out, him and a couple of buddies started up "ABC Cabs". Tom was such a people person that until he retired, he was in his glory working with the public. During his lifetime, Tom had many interests. He was a self taught guitar player and would become part of "The Sportsman" playing many socials and dances. Many Christmas days at his Moms' turned into musical days with Dad, Bill, Betty and Jeff all playing while the rest of us sang along. All such good memories. Tom loved his stock cars. He spent lots of time at the out at Chater, and many hours fixing that car for the next race, of course with lots of "help" from his boys. Later in life, Tom took many electronic courses and was "The Man" to friends and family if something needed to be repaired. This he continued until his eyes and arms just weren't what they used to be. As Tom never gave up on anything, once one hobby could no longer be done, on with a new one. With a couple of saws, it was time to start making things. From small mail holders to jewellery boxes to the large wishing well he made for his daughter. Another mission accomplished. Although no longer able to walk, an office chair was a great pair of "legs" for Tom to get around. Moving with the times, Tom got himself a computer. With a lot of plugging away on his own and with help from his son-in-law Scott and his sons, he was on the way to mastering this mountain too. Many days he and Sheila listened to their favorite music and printed out their favorite recipes. Tom never complained about his physical disability. He was a great believer in making lemonade out of lemons. He will be so terribly missed, not just by his family, but by his friends and anyone he spoke to on a regular basis. His special line "you're looking good today" was his way of putting a little humor in someone's day. Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheila; children: Maureen (Scott) McFayden, Michael, Mark and Tom; grandchildren: Chelsey (Anthony) Dauphinais, Cody McFayden, Michael Antonation, Michelle Davies, Rose Davies, April Bollman (Ryan Selman) and Tasha Chambers. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Kytaira Dauphinais, Aliyah and Arial Bollman; sisters: Janice (Bill) Starling and Aurial Souchuk and families. There are many cousins (our Baker clan) too numerous to mention, but thought of with love that all held a special place in Tom's heart. Many thanks to Vern Schneider of Memories Chapel, Rev. Michael Skliros and our many friends and family for their support throughout this difficult time. Special thanks to Barry and Tracey Szucki and their children for preparing and setting up everything for the stop and go tea at Scott and Maureen's-we couldn't have managed without you. The Ceremony to Celebrate Tom's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. The Rev. Michael Skliros officiated. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Tom to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3, 824-18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7. We'll think of him as living
In the thoughts of those he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much
