KUKURUDZ: Stella Kukurudz passed away on December 10, 2013, age 99.
Stella was born March 17, 1914 in the Oakburn area to Dmytro and Warwara Wowk. In 1934, she married John Kukurudz and they lived in the Marco area until 1952. She then lived in Hamiota, Shoal Lake, settling in Brandon from 1967. In her younger years, Stella enjoyed acting. Throughout her life, Stella enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing, singing, involvement in church activities, volunteer work, attending cultural events, growing plants and flower gardening, and travelling. Stella was employed as a cook at various restaurants, and was well known and respected for her housecleaning services until her retirement at age 70, as she simply put it "it was too hard to get down on my hands and knees to clean".

She leaves to cherish her memory, her five children, their partners and their families plus friends of all ages. Sons: Boris (Helen Lazaruk) of Brandon; Wally (Glenys) of Pinawa; Orest (Reggie Rietze) of Winnipeg. Daughters: Sylvia Kukurudz (Mike Prodan) of Sidney, MB; Patricia Busby (Kryshewsky) of Mission, BC. Stella's sole surviving sister-in-law, Anne Wowk, lives in Winnipeg.

Stella was predeceased by her first born daughter, Margaret; her parents, Dmytro and Warwara Wowk; siblings and spouses: Helen (Bill); Walter; Elsie (Joe/Bud); Myrtle ( Maurice) and their son, Lenny; Daughter-in-law, Eileen and Great-grandson Bronson Sieg.

Prayers were said at Memories Chapel on December 15, 2013. The Ukrainian Orthodox Funeral Rite was held at Memories Chapel on December 16, 2013 with the Very Rev. Fr. Michael Skrumeda; Deacon Joseph Stadnyk, and Choir of the Ukrainian Orthodox of Holy Ghost officiating. Graveside service followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Lunch was provided by the Ukrainian Ladies/Men Auxillary groups at the Ukrainian National Home for fellowship, sharing of memories, and rekindling friendships of past.
Pallbearers were: Ken Kukurudz, Rob Kukurudz, Joanne Sieg (Kukurudz), Grant Kukurudz, Bradley Kukurudz, Larry Swartz, Andrew Burton.
Crossbearers: Thomas Burton, Brandi Prodan.
