It is with great sadness the family of Stanley Martinizen announces his passing at the Assiniboine Centre on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the age of 89 years. Stanley leaves to mourn his sister, Anne Martinizen of Rivers, a sister-in-law, Mary Martinnizen of Brandon. Nieces and Nephews: Linda (Glen) Leckie of Brandon, Gail (Rene) Defoort of Winnipeg, Craig (Evelyn) Walker of Saskatoon. There are many great and great great nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, George and Antoinette Martinnizen and by brothers; John, Michael and Alex. Stanley Martinizen was born on September 1, 1911 at Kosmyryn, Galacia. He came to Canada with his family in 1912 at the age of one year. They first settled at Fisher Branch and moved several times thereafter. Stanley worked at various jobs throughout his younger years, finally landing a job at Sears in Toronto, where he worked until his retirement. Following his retirement, he moved to Rivers where he became active in the Ukrainian Hall and singing with the Ukrainian Choir. In 1997, he moved to Princess Towers in Brandon. Stanley was a kind, gentle and thoughtful man, thinking always of everyone but himself. To know him was to love him. The ceremony to celebrate Stanley's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood will officiate. A graveside service will be held at a later date. A time of fellowship and refreshment will be held at the Ukrainian Hall in Rivers following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make a donation to a charity of their choie. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
