Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanislaw on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the age of 79 years. He will be missed by his three children: Christine (Noel), George (Wanita) and Tammy (Edward); grandchildren Julia, Travis, Blaise and Storm and great grandson Braxton; sister Steffie Stupak as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Stan was predeceased by his loving wife, Julia; parents Piotr and Anastasia Szozda, and sister Kathy Young.

Stanislaw was born in Bolkow, Poland on May 8, 1942. He was the eldest of 3. The family immigrated to Canada in March, 1959 where they settled in Winnipeg. Stan met Julia at a Sokol dance and they were married in July 1965. They were blessed with 3 children: Christine (1967), George (1969) and Tammy (1972).

For most of his life, Stan worked as a sheet metal fabricator being employed by New Flyer Industries, MacDon Industries, Bigger Industries and Northern Blower. Stan had a gift of being able to turn any piece of scrap metal into a work of art.

Stan loved music! He was actively involved in the Sokol Polish Folk Ensemble for most of his life taking a short hiatus to raise his family. He travelled with the Sokol Ensemble to perform in various cities, the most memorable being Expo 86 in Vancouver. Stan enjoyed volunteering at Folklorama for many years. He was also a member of the St. Cecilia Holy Ghost Choir.

In his earlier years Stan could be found spending his weekends dancing at SPK (Polish club). He was a polka master!

In the 1990's, Stan took up the hobby of beekeeping. Together with his friend George, they processed the best honey and would often "gift" the honey to family and friends.

In his later years, he volunteered at the Sokol Hall Bingo nights several times a week. He also would never miss an episode of "The Young and The Restless" often critiquing Victor Neumann's antics! He enjoyed listening and watching Polish television and radio. In his last days, Stan chose to retire to Victoria Landing Retirement Residence in Brandon, MB where he was reintroduced to his love of seafood!

Stan will be remembered for his subtle sense of humour.

The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Landing Retirement Residence in Brandon, MB for their exceptional care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 342 Pritchard Avenue (please use Selkirk Ave. entrance), Winnipeg, Manitoba on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Thomasz Koscinski OMI as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3P 2T5 or www.heartandstroke.ca.
