Obituary

LEE: Spencer Alan Lee passed away peacefully with his family and loved ones at his side on Saturday, June10, 2000 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Spencer was born on December 27, 1976 at the Brandon General Hospital in Brandon, Manitoba. He went to preschool at Wee Wisdom Nursery School then attended Kindergarten through grade 3 at Riverheights School. Grade 4 - 6 were at Fleming School and grade 7 at Kirkcaldy Heights and grades 8 - 9 were Earl Oxford Junior High. He spent his high school years at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School. Spencer obtained his degree in Business Administration at Brandon University and accomplished high grades leading to an academic scholarship in 1998. As a child, Spencer was very bright. He could finish 48 piece puzzles within minutes. Of course he was a typical child with days and nights playing with his favorite toys He-man figures, WWF Wrestling figures and transformers. After putting in long hours at Kam Lung Restaurant (the family business) and receiving his BBA, Spencer had worked in the fields of human resource management, marketing management, and some information technology. In 1999, Spencer moved to Calgary, Alberta with his girlfriend Pam August, with goals to begin studying for his Masters (MBA) in the near future. Spencer was a very wonderful out-going, friendly gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour. He loved athletics especially volleyball and soccer. Spencer played on the junior varsity and varsity teams throughout his junior high and high school years. He was named most valuable player of the Crocus Plains Varsity Volleyball team in his graduating year ('94). Spencer played soccer since he was 6 years old. He played with the Select team representing Brandon when he was 10 years old for 6 years. After playing for the Crocus Plains soccer team, Spencer continued with the Arsenal team in the Senior Men's League. Golfing, tennis, basketball, and snowboarding were other hobbies Spencer enjoyed immensely. Under all of these athletic talents Spencer had a hidden talent for music. He taught himself how to play guitar and taught all of his friends as well. Spencer and his friends would spend nights and days writing and playing songs together. He had great determination. Whatever he set his mind on he could accomplish. He was never one to give up on a goal. Although his life was short, Spencer managed to do his share in travelling. Such destinations as China, Cancun Mexico, and all across the United States and Canada were visited by him. Spencer, who was also known as Spence, GQ Boy, Lay, Laya, Haku, was always referred to as "a great guy". Spencer was always very caring and would never hold a grudge. Although he maintained his macho, brotherly attitude, we all knew how much he genuinely loved his family and friends. Spencer is survived by father Sergio, mother Susan; sisters: Scarlet, Sabrina, and Samantha; brother Skylar; grandparents Kwing-Yiu Louie and Yuet Louie of Los Angelas, Suet Kiu Lee of Brandon; girlfriend Pam August of Brandon; Uncle Sam and Aunt Sun (Brandon); Uncle Mak and Aunt Ena (Brandon); Uncle Simon and Aunt Anna (L.A.); and Uncle Alan and Aunt Yun (San Francisco). Spencer is also survived by 10 younger cousins and predeceased by his grandfather Wai Man Lee. Active pallbearers are: Derek Watson, Kack Vongnaraj, Ryan Eamer, Kevin Pratt, Corey Kehler, Adam Gurr, Darin Grift, and Wade Davidson.
The funeral ceremony will be held at Central United Church, 325-8th Street, on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Brandon cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Spencer to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
