Obituary

LABROSSE: Sophie Labrosse was born Oct. 23, 1929 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada to parents Frances and Stanley Nykiel and left us on August 30, 2004. She received her education in Brandon and was employed in the banking industry there. She met her late husband Romeo when he was in the First Canadian Parachute Battalion, and they were married on July 2, 1949. They resided there for a number of years and in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where her daughter Janice was born and later moved back to Brandon, where her daughter Karla was born. They moved to Winnipeg and finally settled in the U.S., residing in Vestal, N.Y., Burlington, Vt., and Royal Palm Beach, Florida. After her husband's passing in 1999, she moved to be with her family in southern Mississippi and finally came to live with her daughter in Wickenburg, Arizona. Even though Sophie was mostly homebound when she came to Wickenburg, she quickly went to work making sure everyone she met knew her likes, dislikes and that she was passionate about her beliefs. Just ask Frank at his restaurant. He had the "Sophia" soup she loved so much; and Sangini's, where she would check on her delivery of ravioli; and Suzi Killman (her hairdresser), informing to make sure she didn't look like a country singer. Mom was movie star quality and fussy. Her friends in Brandon knew her as a beautiful, vivacious woman who could dance the night to Tom Jones music. She was quite the character. Sophie loved her family deeply. As in life, she and her husband Romeo had a great love and friendship. She missed him deeply when he passed, but Dad made sure he was cremated so he could be buried with her when her time came. We are bringing them home, as they wished to be together forever. She is survived by her daughters Janice (Paul) Sullivan and Karla (Tom) Wright, brother Stan (Edie) Nykiel, grandsons Thomas and Tyler Wright, niece Jodie Nykiel and her two furry grandchildren, George and Bear. Sophie was predeceased by her Mother and Father, Frances and Stanley Nykiel and her brother Walter Nykiel. Viewing is Thursday, September 9, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and services Friday, September 10, at 11:00 a.m. -- both at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon.
