Obituary

Shirley Anne Shepherd (nee Turton) passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Brandon, Manitoba.

She was born on June 21, 1952, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shirley spent her early years on a farm in the Rapid City area. She was the second oldest of six siblings, and she cherished her role as an older sister, often helping out with her four younger siblings. Growing up on the farm, Shirley developed a love for animals and the land, a passion that stayed with her throughout her life. She also had a fondness for music and was a member of the Rapid City 4-H beef club and sang in the church choir.

In her professional life, Shirley worked in the service industry, but her true happiness came from her family. Her son Jason brought immense joy to her life, and when he married Nicole, her heart overflowed with happiness and when her grandchild Bonnie was born, she was over the moon.

Shirley had a generous spirit and was always eager to lend a helping hand to others, and supported the elderly by cleaning for them. She had a remarkable capacity for love and cared deeply for her entire family, including her parents, brothers, sisters and their spouses, their children and grandchildren. She also had many friendships that she valued deeply. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her son Jason (Nicole) Shepherd, grandchild Bonnie Shepherd, sisters Cathy Demas and Margaret (Bob) Menzies, brother Charles Turton and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Mary Turton, brother Ken Turton, sister Gwen Wasteste and brother-in-law Ben Demas.

A graveside service will take place at the Rapid City Cemetery on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
