Obituary

It is with deep love and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Maxine Johnson (Thorarinson) on November 30, 2001. Maxine will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her loving husband of 47 years, Brian, son, Brent, daughter, Alice Ficek (Ward), grandchildren, Jordan and Tanner, daughter, Sandra Haithwaite (Rob) and grandchildren, Meghan and Evan. She is also survived by a sister, Sara Doris Skinner (Ron), brother Eugene Thorarinson (Syliva), sister, Carita Ditchfield (Doug), and sister, Roxanne Ireland (Cliff). There are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Maxine was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Doris Thorarinson, a brother and sister in infancy, brother, Karl, brother, Alexander Owen and her in-laws, Laura and Leo Johnson. Maxine was born on December 25, 1935 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. After her childhood in Winnipegosis, she moved to Winnipeg in 1950 and resided there until 1972 when the family moved to Brandon to operate Brian's Wayfare Restaurant. She later made many close friends and associates through real estate. Since retirement, she became actively involved in visiting and assisting seniors, playing bridge and she always cherished her time spent at the cabin. Maxine had a full life which was enriched by warm relationships with family and friends to whom her home was always open. The memorial service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment service will be held at the Glenboro Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Maxine to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, 824 - 18th Street, Brandon R7A 5B7. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
