Obituary

HARLEY: The death of Sarah M. Harley of Brandon occurred in the city on Sunday, March 30, 2008. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 am. Arlene Robertson of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. A graveside and interment service will follow at the Birtle Cemetery, Birtle, at 3:00 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mrs. Harley to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Intensive Care Services, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice. HARLEY: Sarah Margaret of Brandon passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on March 30, 2008. Sarah was born at Isabella, Manitoba on September 26, 1923, the second daughter of David and Mary (nee Craig) Blelloch. Sarah attended school in the Isabella and Kelloe districts of Manitoba. Upon finishing school she worked for various families in the Kelloe, Miniota and Birtle districts. Sarah lived in the Isabella district until 1933, Shoal Lake district until 1935, Kelloe until 1945, Miniota until 1948 and Birtle until 1957. Then she moved to Brandon. While working for Marcus Fitzgerald of Birtle, she met her husband Hugh Harley. They were married August 4, 1951. In 1957, Sarah, Hugh and Catherine moved to Brandon to live with her sister Helen "Nell" and future brother-in-law Bill. She had lived in the same house for fifty plus years. In 1964, she went to work at Perth's Laundry, retiring in 1982. Sarah loved to knit and took her articles to local craft sales. Every Christmas, Sarah and Catherine made fudge for family, friends and the staff of the Brandon Clinic. Sarah was a season ticket holder for the Brandon Wheat Kings, Brandon Cloverleafs and Brandon Marlins. She attended her last Wheat Kings game on February 6, 2008. This was three short days before she entered the hospital. Sarah is survived by: daughter Catherine "Cathy" of Brandon; brothers Robert (Isabel) and Thomas "Tim" of Birtle; nephews Russell (Joyce) of Birtle, Angus (Kathy) of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Mark (Lisa) of Virden, David (Delia) of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Alexander Harley, Robert Elder, William Elder and families of Scotland; nieces Linda (Gordon) King of Quallicum Beach, British Columbia, Jean (Ron) Barteaux of Birtle, Susan Morland, Catherine Dorward, Sandra Tarvitt and families of Scotland and Ann Cree of Switzerland. She is also survived by: great nieces Melissa Blelloch of Regina, Saskatchewan, Sarah Blelloch of Virden, Ashley Barteaux of Birtle, Tammy (Edward), Nicholas, Devon, Brendon Prince of Naniamo, British Columbia and Leanne (Cory), Darcy, Dannielle MacKenzie of Parksville, British Columbia; great nephews Kevin Blelloch of Regina, Brenden Barteaux of Birtle; Aunt Annie Craig of Virden and numerous cousins in the Craig, Blelloch and Harley families. Sarah was predeceased by: her parents: David in 1968 and Mary in 1978; father-in-law Alexander Harley in 1961; mother-in-law Catherine Harley in 1965; her husband Hugh in 1966; daughter, Linda Margaret in 1956; brothers David in 2003, John in 1999; sister Helen "Nell" Paterson in 2000; brother-in-law William "Bill" Paterson in 1981; sister-in-law Evelyn Blelloch in 2003; brothers-in-law David Harley in British Columbia, Alexander Harley, Robert Harley, Alexander Elder and Thomas Rodgers all of Scotland; sisters-in-law Jean Harley, Christine Harley, Annie Elder, and Margaret "Peggy" Rodgers all of Scotland; nephew James Elder; niece Sheila Rodgers of Scotland and great nephew Stanley Blelloch of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan in 1981. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel, on Friday, April 4, 2008. Arlene Robertson of First Presbyterian Church officiated. Pallbearers were nephews: Russell, Angus, and Mark Blelloch, Ron Barteaux, and Brian and Doug Paterson. A graveside service followed at the Birtle Cemetery, Birtle. Flowers are gratefully declined.
