Obituary

PETERSON: The death of Ruth Alice Peterson of Brandon, beloved wife of Orville, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 3:00 pm. Pastor Ted Jannuska of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date in Carberry Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 3 - 824 - 18th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 5B7. Complete obituary information will follow. PETERSON: Ruth Alice Peterson (nee Nixon) passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. The youngest of six children, Ruth was born in Wapella, Saskatchewan on April 8, 1938. Also known to her sisters as "Ruthie", was raised on the family farm. She received her education in Wapella and often traveled by horse and buggy from the farm. For the winter months, the family would rent a house in town. Ruth loved to go to dances with her family at the Kendleton Hall in the district. Ruth worked in her Uncle George's hardware store while attending school. She worked as an "Avon Lady", CPR station agent, Sales Clerk, and Insurance Agent. On April 25, 1955 Ruth married Orville Peterson. Ruth was associated in various organizations including the Red Hat Society, as a sewing teacher with 4-H, choir, UCW, and was secretary of the Railway Retirees of Brandon. She was actively involved in her children's activities and associations during their growing years including dancing, hockey games (especially if Orville was playing) curling, golf, sewing (made both her daughters wedding dresses), knitting, crocheting, and 5-pin bowling. For 10 years after retirement Orville and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Mesa, Arizona for 5 months of the year and spending the other 7 at their cottage at Pleasant Valley, Manitoba. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Alvin and Flora Nixon; sisters Fred McIntyre and Verna Ulmer; grandson Thomas Currie; brothers-in-law Joe McIntyre, Jerry Ulmer, Lyle Dolman, and David Kruger and sister-in-law Shirley Peterson. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Orville; daughters Shelley (Ron) Taylor and Sharon (Steve) Currie; sons Bradley and Lloyd Peterson; grandchildren Shannon (Dan) Miller, Jaime and Cindie Taylor, Sally (Shaun) Grice, Allison Currie, Owen, Ben, Darryl, Rory Trever, and Connor Peterson, and Season Clyn; and great grandson, Ryder Miller. Ruth is also survived by brother Martin (Carrie) Nixon; sisters Eleanor (Gerry) Sedgwick, and Florence Dolman; brother-in-law Lloyd J. Peterson; sisters-in-law Margaret Kruger and Marion (Clarence) Billard, as well a numerous nephews and nieces. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, January 26, 2007. Pastor Ted Jannuska of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiated. Urn bearer was granddaughter Shannon Taylor-Miller. Interment will be held at a later date in Carberry Cemetery.
