FRASER: The death of Ruth Fraser occurred peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2004 at Fairview Home in Brandon in her ninety-second year. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1990, infant daughter Sandra in 1950, and by brothers Austin and Lawrence Gamey, sister Hazel Westwood and son-in-law Carman Rust. Left to mourn her passing are: daughters Elaine Rust of Brandon and Donna (Walter) Pawluk of North Vancouver; son Bruce (Francilla) Fraser of Belleville, Ontario; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are: sisters Beatrice McCullough of Victoria, BC and Irene (Roy) Fallow of Orilla, Ontario. Ruth was born in Strathclair, Manitoba on October 28, 1912, the daughter of Wesley and Edith Gamey. Educated in Strathclair and the Brandon Normal School, she taught school before being married to John Fraser in 1935. They farmed together at Basswood, Manitoba until their retirement to Minnedosa in 1972. In 1997 she moved to Hobbs Manor in Brandon and in 2003 moved to Fairview Home. She was active over the years in many organizations, including the United Church in Basswood, Minnedosa and Brandon, the Women's Institute and Minnedosa Hospital Auxiliary. In her later years she traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many parts of North America, usually in the company of her sister Irene and Roy Fallow. She particularly enjoyed her travels in Canada from coast to coast and north to Yellowknife and Churchill. Ruth will be dearly missed as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and as a friend to many. The Graveside service will be held at Basswood Cemetery on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at the Minnedosa United Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Shawn Ankenmann will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined.
