Obituary

FARLEY: On Tuesday, January 19, 2000 at the home farm, Ruth Farley wife of Roy passed away suddenly at the age of 83. Ruth was born on January 25, 1916, the youngest child of John and Hannah Blair. She was born, raised and educated in the Derry District near Douglas. On October 19, 1938 she married Roy Farley and they began their married life and raising a family on a farm near Ingelow. In 1946, they moved to the Glanton district where they raised their family of five. Ruth was very active in community events having been a long time member of the Glanton North Group, the Glanton Community Club, the Forrest U.C.W., Justice W.I. and in her younger years the Ladies' Curling Club. She was a Life Member of the Austin Agricultural Museum and enjoyed many years as a volunteer there. Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years Roy; her daughters: Fay (Kirk) Gillespie of Selkirk, Carol (Bill) Gillette of Chilliwack, and Lois Farley (Yiannis Skorletos) of Winnipeg; and one son Terry of Brandon. Her grandchildren: Joy Gillespie (Dave Noordman), Darcy Gillespie (Dana Kirkness), Sharon (Gord) Staples, Gail (Daniel) Price, Andrea Gillette, Lea and Giorgia Skorletos; three great-granddaughters: Danielle Noordman, Hannah Price and Emma Gillespie. She is also survived by her sister Violet Whyte of Brandon. She was predeceased by her son Jim; infant daughter Laurine; her parents; two brothers and five sisters. Ruth's greatest joy was her family. She loved the time spent with family and friends, summers at the cabin at Minnedosa and the camping trips with Roy, Fay and Kirk. In her later years she became an avid fisherman. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Saturday, January 22, 2000 (today) at 1:00 pm. Rev. Barb Jardine will officiate. Interment will follow in the Madford Cemetery at Douglas. Flowers are gratefully declined.
