Obituary

WESTWOOD: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy J.W. Westwood on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Hillcrest Place. Best friend and much-loved husband of Vivian Westwood (McKnight) for 61 years. Dedicated and loving father of Len (Louise) Westwood. Dearly missed by granddaughters Corinne (Luc) Mireault, Wendy (Bryan) Warner and Shelley Westwood as well as great-grandchildren Alexie, Danica, Dylan and Gracy, his pride and joy. Roy will be missed by his many friends. Roy was predeceased by his father Harold; his mother Emily; stepmother Kathleen; brothers Stan and Arthur and sisters Vera Begg, Phyllis Nielsen and Florence Westwood as well as his son Ron. Roy was born on June 21, 1925 and grew up on the farm in Rapid City, Manitoba. After serving overseas in the army from 1941-1946, he purchased the local Massey farm implement business from his father. In 1947, Roy married Vivian McKnight and together they operated a successful business until 1956 when he joined the Manufacturers Life sales team and moved to Brandon. He stayed there until his retirement in 1996. Throughout the years, Roy enjoyed activities at their second home at Clear Lake. After retiring he took up curling. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing amongst other things. He always had a smile on his face and we will all remember him for the strong, proud and intelligent man that he was. The Ceremony to Celebrate Roy's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, April 14, 2007. Rev. Harvey Hurren officiated. The reception followed where the family was overwhelmed with thoughts from friends. Interment was in the Rapid City Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba - Westman Region, 1 - 613 -10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G6.
