Rown Hector "Smitty" Smith, of Brandon, father of Shannon, Rown and Brian, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, August 17, 2003. A graveside ceremony will be held at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 25, 2003 at 10:00 am. Flowers are gratefully declined. SMITH: Rown Hector Smith "Smitty" of Brandon passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, August 17, 2003. He was born on October 4, 1926 in Brandon, son of William and Margaret Smith. He received his schooling in Brandon. Smitty was a life long resident of Brandon, where he built his own home in the early 1950's. He resided there until his passing. He worked with his father in Smith Plastering & Stucco in his early years. Later, Smitty served with in the Canadian Air Force and was trained as a rear gunner. While in the Air Force, he started boxing, which he thoroughly enjoyed. After the war, he went back to the family business, and in the early 1980's went into partnership with his son Rown. His interests included curling, bonspieling, bowling, hunting, and fishing. He spent all his weekends at Clear Lake from the mid 1950's to 1980. Smitty was very fond of his dogs and "Rusty" will miss him. He was a member of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans Club, belonged to 502nd Wing and was a member of the Brandon Club. One daughter and two sons survive: Shannon Lilley (Glen Parker); Rown Smith Jr. (Bonnie Fleming) and Brian Smith. There are six grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Lloyd Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by, his "Special Friends", Bill Robinson and children Travis, Troy and Callee. Smitty was predeceased by his parents William and Margaret Smith; daughter Colleen; sister Dorothy; brother Bill; and granddaughter Krystal.
