Obituary

TURNER: It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Ross Burton Turner on June 22, 2008 at the age of 67 years. Ross was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba and received most of his schooling in Hartney, Manitoba. Ross had various jobs prior to starting at BMHC, June 10, 1963. Initially, he worked as an attendant, then worked in the laundry for thirteen years prior to transferring to Government Services where he worked until his retirement in January 2001. His ability to foresee the outcome of a project prior to starting it made him a very versatile and valuable asset to his job. He built two cabins at Pelican Lake and enjoyed many happy weekends there. Ross completed many amazing projects. For example, he built a motor home and restored a 38 Chev. He loved to create and made many beautiful carvings and furnishings for his home and people he loved. Following his retirement, Ross spent many happy hours in his garage working on his car and other projects. He enjoyed his coffee outings, visiting with his buddies and our friends and helping our neighbours. Ross was a warm loving husband, father, stepfather and "grampa". He loved spending time with all of us. He was always willing to advise, instruct or help complete any job we needed done. Ross loved his grandchildren dearly and spent many invaluable hours with them. He enjoyed his retirement and was always available to go for coffee, outings, suppers and he would tease us about planning of schedules, months in advance. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a spirit that remained until his passing. Ross is survived by his loving wife Hazel; son Todd (Maureen) Turner; daughter Cheryl Turner (Danny); step-son Terry (Donna) English; step-daughter Jo-Anne (Don) Lewis; grandchildren: Cameron, Aaron and Emma Turner, Stacey Turner, Shane and Brendan English, and Samantha Lewis. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Marjorie Trott, Doreen (Dave) Thompson, Joyce (Bill) Watson, Jeannie Turner; brothers-in-law: Bill (Sadie) Dagg, Bernie (Jane) Dagg and George Bardsley; aunt Kay Ross and numerous nieces and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his parents Fred and Irving Turner; one brother Marshall and a sister Geraldine Bardsley. The Ceremony to Celebrate Ross' Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Mr. Joel Klemick officiated. Pallbearers were Ken Gould, Bob Martin, Rick Edwards, Samantha Lewis, Rob Rose and Dave Teichrow. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish, may make a donation in memory of Ross to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, For Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 0V9.
