Obituary

WHALLEY: The death of Ronald Anson Whalley, age 76 years, occurred peacefully in his sleep in Brandon on Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Ron was born at Iberville, Quebec on September 6, 1926, son of George and Ellen Whalley. After completing his schooling in Quebec, learning, both French and English, Ron then worked in his father's Pottery Factory as a Pottery Tester. He enlisted in the Canadian Army from 1950 to 1966 when he retired. After his military career, Ron was a self employed restaurateur for twenty years. He also worked with the Corps of Commissionaires for five years. He was a member of the Korean Veterans Association and the Army and Navy Veterans of Canada Association. His interests included shuffleboard, coin collecting, and calling bingo at the Army & Navy Club. He worked with the Travelers Day Parade in Brandon and was the Treasurer for the Army & Navy Association. Ron is survived by his children Lynne (Dean) of Edmonton, Louise (Ken) of Winnipeg, Diane (Philip), June (Vern), Barbara (Steve), James (Linda) all of Brandon and Nancy Whalley of Quebec. He is also survived by; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by; his wife Madeleine, son Robert, parents George and Ellen Mae Whalley (nee Phipps), and brothers George and Ivan. A time of visitation for friends will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th St. N. on Sunday, July 13, 2003 from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. The Ceremony of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Memories Chapel on Monday, July 14, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Fr. Eric Giddins of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Veterans Section of the Brandon Cemetery.
