OLIVER: Ronald Leo Jack Oliver, the final battle of this soldier's life was a brief but valiant one. Unfortunately on May 31, 2005 the other side was the victor. Ron was born on March 30, 1943 in Oshawa, Ontario. He joined the military on October 6, 1960 and for 33 years the Artillery was his life. Ron served overseas in Vietnam, Cyprus and Germany and in Canada at Shilo, Petawawa, Gagetown and Ottawa. Many times he was heard to have said, "He attended the School of Hard Knocks". In his retirement years, he worked at Connaught Ranges in Ottawa and as a Commissionaire in Shilo. He loved being outdoors with his truck and a "medium double, double". He is leaving behind to keep his memory alive, his mother, Marie Aletha May Marshall; his devoted and loving daughter, Cindy Ataman; granddaughter Anastasia; son-in-law, Brian Ataman; sisters, Gloria, Sharon, Nancy, Linda, Mary Lou and Cathy and their families; as well as his extended family of beloved friends. At Ron's request there will not be a viewing or funeral service. Interment will follow at a later date in the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa, Ontario. Ron's wish was to have his friends gather and celebrate his life. This will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2005 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Eppert's home located East on Tower Road off Highway 10, South of Brandon.
