GLOOR: On May 7, 2006 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Ronald John Angus with his wife by his side succumbed to cancer. Ron was born the second son of Valentine and Jessie Gloor on January 4, 1939 at the Dodds' farm south of Pipestone. Ron's father served overseas so like many he was without his Dad for 3 years. Ron often spoke of his happy childhood and held special memories of Grandpa and Grandma Dodds with whom he spent lots of time. As a boy he delivered the Winnipeg Tribune and worked as a farm hand. When Ron left school he embarked on many a career and adventures in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He worked as a Cookie, machine operator, fur trapper, survey crew with PFRA and later Highways Branch, roughneck, miner, painter and salesman. In 1965 Ron met his love Joan Godfrey, daughter of Walter and Irene of Napinka, Manitoba. Ron than decided to establish a permanent career and in 1967 began his 5-year plumbing apprenticeship. He obtained his Journeyman's ticket and later his Class A Gas Fitter's license. He worked in Brandon and Winnipeg and then at DND Shilo from 1977 until retirement in 2002. Ron and Joan married on August 3, 1968 and had nearly 38 wonderful years. To Ron's joy, a son Bart was born in 1971 and a daughter Crystal in 1978. Raising his children were Ron's happiest years. He so enjoyed the hockey and softball games, bowling tournaments, Scouting, Brownie activities and camping in the Whiteshell. The family holidays to Niagara Falls, out west and South Dakota were precious memories to him. Ron was a kind, gentle, honest, generous, loving man and Joan fell in love with these qualities. Ron taught his family the value of hard work, the value of an education, the importance of family, and having Faith and God in one's life. Ron had a special ability to find joy in everyday living. Ron was greatly interested in Poetry and History. At a young age he was awarded 2nd out of 117 for spoken poetry at the Border Musical and Dramatic Festival. Ron was able to play a tune on most any musical instrument although he never had lessons. In 1999, Ron was thrilled when Bart married Sandra Finlay of Rapid City. One of Ron's greatest joys were his two granddaughters Melanie, born November, 2001 and Kelsey, March 2006. In the fall of 2001 Ron was diagnosed with cancer which he fought with courage and dignity. He always kept his unique sense of humour and positive attitude. He continued living life to the fullest; fishing and boating with family, enjoying Wheat King games, trapshooting, playing cribbage at the Legion, playing with Melanie and golfing at his special charity the CCFC's Annual tournament. His latest special interests were woodworking and the woodcarving club on Tuesday nights. In September 2005, he and Joan flew to Vancouver Island for a holiday. During his family years Ron was a scout leader, softball coach, Optimist member, Union member and Legion member. He was also a member of Central United Church. He relished the role of husband, father, and grandfather and his greatest gift to his family was his love. He will be deeply mourned and so sadly missed by his wife Joan; son Bart (Sandra); daughter Crystal (Mike); granddaughters Melanie and Kelsey; mom Jessie; brother Jim (Joanie); sisters Norma Lennon(Verne), Elaine (Dave Bennett); mother-in-law Irene; brother-in-law Art (Iona) Godfrey; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His life was a precious gift and a life well lived. Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, his weary trials and troubles are past; In silence he suffered, in patience he bore, Till God called him home to suffer no more.Memorials
