It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ron Ball.
A business owner, father, grandpa and mentor, Ron founded Precision Toyota in 1979 but it will be his philanthropy and personality that will be remembered so well by those who had the pleasure to know him in Brandon and Westman.
After growing up on a cattle farm near Shilo, Ron started working for a septic business as a young man. When things slowed down in the winter, he began selling cars for the local Toyota dealership in Brandon. Born with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Ron opened his own used-car dealership with Kenny Campbell called Ron's Wheel Estate not long after.
This past year Precision Toyota celebrated its 45th year in business and Ron was incredibly proud that a new generation - his son, Scott, and Ken's son, Jordan - are carrying the business forward.
In 2009, Ron was named the Brandon Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year and although he was successful in his business endeavours it was his work in the community that touched so many lives in Westman - often behind the scenes and without fanfare.
Ron always had a soft spot for children and in 1993 Westman Dreams for Kids was launched to help grant dreams to children in need. Since its inception, Westman Dreams has gone on to help hundreds of children in Westman with everything from expenses for medical bills to meeting Mickey Mouse in Disney Land.
In 2019, Ron officially retired from Precision Toyota, although he could often still be found in the hallways of the dealership making a joke or sharing a coffee with a past client or beloved employee. Ron always kept a watchful eye and a smile on the ready for anyone who came through Precision's doors as a client or an employee.
"My father is a good man who has always cared about his staff and their well-being," Scott said. "He gained a lot of respect, because of how he treated people over the years. He never looked for accolades but the number of people who came up to me and privately thanked me for something he did was incredible."
In 2019, Ron said: "It's important to give back to the community. We've been fortunate to live a good life. We've built and donated an office for Westman Dreams for Kids in the dealership for them to work out of. It's just the right thing to do."
More recently, Ron has become a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren, and nothing made him happier than spending time with them teaching them about the outdoors or watching them excel in every aspect of their lives. We know they will all have a guardian close by forever more.
Ron's legacy will continue through Westman Dreams for Kids, the Brandon Wheat Kings, minor hockey, youth soccer and many other local charities.
We will forever honour Ron's legacy and commitment to excellence, and we vow to have the same passion and integrity that he embodied.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife Laurie, children Scott (Naydia), Angie (Dan), and Tyler; and grandchildren Elizabeth, Chase, Jett, and Asher.
Rest in peace, Ron. You will be deeply missed.
A Celebration to honour Ron's Life will take place at the Victoria Inn, Grand Salon, on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow. As per Ron's wishes he would like this celebration to be casual.
