On Thursday, August 2, 2001, with her family at her side, Roberta Lydia Fisher, age 73 years, passed away peacefully at the Tri-Lake Health Centre, Killarney and joined her husband Vernon. Roberta was born in Montreal, Quebec on February 15, 1928 to Richard and Martha Ann Cooper. She moved with her family to Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 9 years. Roberta was educated in Winnipeg, and was more known as a socializer than an academic. However, she was extremely talented at creating sewing and knitting patterns from scratch. She described herself as a tomboy (nickname Bobby) and loved to play baseball. From age 17 to 22 Roberta resided at the Ninette Sanitorium where she was known to be quite a prankster. When Roberta was younger she worked as a house cleaner, then she married Vernon Fisher in July 1951 and she became a farmer's wife, and had two children. They dairy farmed near Wawanesa and later at Chater until Vernon's death in November 1990. Roberta also worked several years for the CNIB canteen at the Brandon Mental Health Centre. She was an avid and talented knitter, sewer and crotcheter, but was not successful in passing these skills on to her daughter, Karen. Roberta loved bingo, her beanie babies and the giving of gifts. Roberta will be forever loved and dearly missed by son Kevin (Bev) of Edmonton and daughter, Karen (Tom Campbell) of Boissevain. Also surviving are her brother, Jim (Margaret) Cooper of Regina; sisters, Shirley (Hans) Kirschke of Kelowna; Margaret (Don) Porcher of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Jason, Kalin, Shanna, Ashley, Brett and special friend Ann Marie Wanless of Maple Ridge, B.C., along with many other relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Vernon and her mother and father, Martha Ann and Richard Cooper. The Ceremony to Celebrate Roberta's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Monday, August 6, 2001 at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Joe Ball will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sparling cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Roberta may be made to the Arthritis Society, Westman Region, 153-8th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3W9. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
