Robert McLeod (Bob) Paxton died peacefully after a lengthy illness in the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon on December 20, 2003 with his loving family at his side. Bob was born at Haldimand County, Oneida Township, Ontario on September 5, 1929. Completing his schooling at Cayuga, Ontario, Bob worked several years as a leverman on the Welland Canal. He moved west with family in 1960 to Manitoba. He accepted a job offer with Canadian Pacific Railway as a Telegraph Operator and Relief Station Agent on the Brandon Division. The Railway's closing of all their Stations in the 1970's, establishing Customer Service Centres in their place. Bob transferred to the new C.S.C. Services Accounting Department. Further railway consolidation moved him to Winnipeg in 1983. He retired in 1992 and moved back to Brandon. Bob was a member of the St. John's Lodge #23, A.F. & A.M. and the Grand Lodge of Ontario for over fifty years. He was also a member of the U.C.T. and he Canadian Pacific Pensioners Association of Brandon. He was a real avid sports enthusiast and was known to have a green thumb for gardening. It could be said Bob was a very easy-going person who was considered a tenacious competitor in his sports activities. As a bowler of five and ten pins and being on the Provincial Bowling team several times; on the golf course playing a steady game every Monday, even shooting a 66 one day. He could do nothing wrong. Winter would find him on the curling ice, a game he very much enjoyed at the Brandon Curling Club. These sports activities resulted in his bringing home many trophies. Bob is survived by; his loving wife Margaret, daughter Barbara (Tom) Low and son Marshall (Jacqueline) Paxton. Step-children: Jeanne (George) Endall, Jim (Zoria) Low, Tom (Barb) Low, Murray Low. Bob also leaves grandchildren: Mike, Jody, Jackson, Bobbi; also step-grandchildren, Becky, Cathy, Sadie, Becky, David, Steve. There are four great grandchildren. He also leaves his mother, Marion Stewart and a brother, Graham (Mary) Dorans. The funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18t Street North on Monday, January 5, 2004 at 11:00 am. Arlene Robertson will officiate. Urn Bearers will be all the grandchildren. All attending the ceremony will be considered honorary pallbearers. Flowers are gratefully declined.
