It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Irvine "Bob" Howard on January 3, 2003 at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer disease. Bob will be sadly missed by: his beloved wife of forty-five years, Margaret; one son Rob (Sherry), Nicholas and Brenden of Carberry, MB; two daughters, Laurie (Don) Zachanowich, Leslie, Jamie and Cristine of Wawanesa, MB and Kelly Howard, Shawna, Dustin and Scott of Duncan, BC. His mother, Adelaide Pitchko and brother Dale Howard of Springfield, Oregon and sister-in-law, Shirley McKay of Saskatoon, SK also survive. There are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by, his father Irvine Howard in 1959. Bob was born in Vancouver, BC on November 10, 1931 and spent his early years in Victoria, BC, St. Catharine's, ON as well as Regina, SK, where he was a graduate of Luther College. After a short term in the Canadian Navy on the west coast, Bob returned to Regina where he began his career in the insurance business. He later moved to Saskatoon and joined an insurance agency, where he met his future wife, Margaret Pearl Entwisle. They were married in April 1957. Bob joined the staff of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company in 1956 and served in various capacities with the company in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Regina and Wawanesa, where he rose to the position of branch manager until ill health forced his retirement in 1987. Bob's greatest loves in life were his family, his career and music. He was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing and singing in churches and choirs from an early age. Music became a relaxing pastime in later life. Bob also enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. Our sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff on 3 West at the former B.M.H.C. and C.G.P. at the Assiniboine Centre. A very special thank-you to the doctors, nurses and the entire staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for their compassionate care during the past four years. The Ceremony to Honor Bob's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 11:00 am.
