HALES, Robert Morris Henry "Gus": April 30, 2006 we lost a fine husband, father, grandpa, uncle and good friend. Gus was born in Brandon, August, 1935 to parents Mabel and William. He spent his entire career as Assistant Treasurer at City Hall, and even after retirement used his expertise as Treasurer of Brandosa Beach Association for many years. His interests included bowling, golf, volunteering for such charities as Westman Dreams for Kids and Habitat for Humanity, socializing with the gang at Brandosa, where he made so many friends, and traveling to Mexico, Las Vegas, and the West Coast. He was a past member of the Lions Club and a devoted member of AA. Gus was always a gentleman, an affable man who, ironically, was also a quiet and reserved person. He met his struggle with cancer with courage and determination, hoping to make it through to see son Chris married in June and celebrating his 40th Anniversary in November. But, such was not to be. He so much enjoyed his last trip to Florida to spend a month with daughter Corey and Jay. He had such joy in the times spent at Sasktatoon with his very special granddaughters. Gus is survived by wife Lorna (Richardson); son Chris (Nell), granddaughters Beth and Corah; daughter, Corey (Jay) Chodachek, all of whom he was so proud. Surviving as well are brother George (Janice), sisters-in-law Jude (Bill) Wesley, Sharron Cochrane, Willie Richardson, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law Lorne and June, infant grandson Konnor and brother-in-law Wayne. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh and sense of humour, his concern for others' well-being, and hosting of many lake and family get-togethers. Rest in peace, my friend. There will be a private interment in the morning, with a Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, at 3:30 pm, and a time of fellowship to follow. Rev. John Nesbitt will officiate. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
In tears, we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
You suffered much in silence,
You fought so hard to stay.
You faced your task with courage,
Your spirit did not bend,
But still you kept on fighting,
Until the very end.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to Me."
So when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful, free of pain,
We could not wish you back again.
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He took you home to rest.
God's garden must be so beautiful,
For He only takes the best.Memorials
