CAMPBELL: The death of Robert James "RJ" Campbell occurred at his residence, Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, on Thursday, February 14, 2007. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. John Nesbitt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Griswold Cemetery. CAMPBELL: Robert James "RJ" Campbell, formerly of Griswold, Manitoba, passed away at his residence, Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on Wednesday, February 14, 2007. RJ was born on the family farm in Harding, Manitoba on January 16, 1905. He received his education at Education Point School. He took a great interest in world affairs, politics at the National Level and enjoyed reading. RJ worked in the Rivers area on Sid Treloar, Percy Hayes, and his brother, Bill Campbell's farms. In 1923, a tornado struck and blew Bill's barn down killing RJ's brother Marshal. In 1925, he went to Regina and worked in a garage. In 1926 RJ went to work on his uncle's farm at Heward, Saskatchewan. RJ then returned home and farmed with his mother until her passing in 1935. In 1937, RJ married Marion Bell. They had two sons Cordell and Urshel. In 1946, RJ and Marion moved to the district at Halls Bridge near Griswold, farming there until going to the hospital on September 10, 2006. He still had a CWB permit at his 101st birthday. RJ built all the buildings on the farm including "Halls Bridge Dance Garden" in 1966. He loved to sing the old square dance calls and had a lot of fun. He and Marion did considerable tours of North America and Europe, as well as the Soviet Union in 1980 and the British Isles in 1978. RJ was predeceased by his father and mother; ten other family members including his son Cordell. He is survived by his wife Marion; son Urshel; Cordell's wife Marlene and her three sons: Brent, wife Gail and their children Catlin, Jessica Lee, Jessica Anne, Curtis, Devon and Joshua; Gregory; Darren, wife Jody and their daughter Kendel. There are many nephews and nieces that also survive. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, February 19, 2007. Rev. John Nesbitt officiated. Interment followed in the Griswold Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brent, Darren, Bob and Dale Campbell, Harvey and Jerry Paterson. All those in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of RJ may be made to a charity of one's choice.
