CAIRNS: Cecil Cairns of Brandon passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Cecil was born October 8, 1918 on the family farm near Oak Lake, Manitoba, Fred and Amelia Cairns' third of four sons. He attended Ryerson School, one half mile from the farm. He took two years of correspondence to complete his grade ten while working with his father on the family farm. On February 15, 1945 he married Naomi Stockford, his wife of 60 years. Following his father's death in 1946, he took over the farm where he and Naomi raised their two daughters. In 1974, Cecil retired from the family farm and he and Naomi moved to Brandon to be close to family and friends. Desiring to remain active in the agricultural field, he took a position at the Brandon Research Station where he worked with livestock, field plots and then with machinery maintenance. He retired for the second time in 1984 giving him more time for his grandchildren whom he loved deeply, and time to pursue his carpentry hobby. Cecil was predeceased by: his parents, Fred and Amelia Cairns, infant sister, Margery; brother Clinton; sisters-in-law, Helen and Vera Cairns. He will be lovingly remembered by: his wife, Naomi; daughters, Marilyn (Wayne) Phillips and Darlene (Les) Schirmacher; and five grandchildren, Tracy, Jason and Stephanie Phillips and Brent and Deanna Schirmacher. He is also mourned by: his brothers, Earle (JoAnn) and Ray (Ruth) and many nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family and demonstrated his Christian commitment in numerous practical ways. The Ceremony to Celebrate Cecil's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Monday, November 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Randy Stanton and Rev. Dennis Schram will officiate. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Cecil to the Gideon's Brandon Camp, P.O. Box 20060, Brandon, MB R7A 5Y8, Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre, P.O.
