Bob passed away quietly on June 12, 2026 at the age of 79 years with his loving family at his side.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Bob was an avid athlete enjoying playing hockey, baseball, and golf. At 19 he started a career with CIBC which eventually took him to Thunder Bay where he met his wife Connie. They started their family together in Winnipeg, where Bob stayed active in sports, either playing on teams himself or coaching his kids’ various teams.

Summer weekends and vacations at the lake were an important part of his life. He loved his time as a teenager building the Pinkos family cottage with his parents and siblings. Then in adulthood being able to bring his own family there, spending time teaching his kids to swim and play horseshoes during the day and playing penny poker with the adults of the family in the evenings.

Later in his career, the family moved to Brandon where Bob continued in banking but now in the agriculture sector where he enjoyed meeting farmers and visiting their farms to better understand their needs. He and Connie took up curling and enjoyed playing against the farmers in the Roseland yearly tournament. The (mostly) city boy then bought a farm for himself and his wife for their retirement years where they rented out pasture for other farmers/ranchers to use for their horses or cattle. He explored a few different hobbies with his time on the farm, but he was most proud of some woodworking projects he did for his kids.

Always a Jets fan, Bob spent the hockey season watching games with his son, Gord, cheering or yelling together. A music lover all his life, Bob would often sing around the house, reciting lyrics a cappella, serenading whomever happened to be with him with snippets from his favourite songs.

He had a good life until a myriad of medical problems took their toll. While there were definitely some downs, he did his best to stay positive and he bounced back, time and time again. But after being a dialysis patient for 17 years, his body could no longer handle the stress. He sang until his last days.

He will be greatly missed by Connie, his wife of 53 years, sons Jeremy (Mandee) and Gordon, daughter Andrea, and his brother Bruce (Darlene).

He is predeceased by his parents Mildred and Joseph Pinkos, his sister Carol and her husband Eric Johnson.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brandon General Hospital. For the extra years of life Bob was able to have due to the efforts of everyone in the dialysis unit; and to the doctors, nurses, and aides on both the medical side and in the Assiniboine Centre who were generous with their time, knowledge and care during Bob’s last weeks. It will always be remembered.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or charity of your choice.
