The death of Robert Hugh "Bob" Allen of Rivers occurred Friday, August 24, 2001 at the Riverdale Hospital, Rivers, Manitoba. Bob was born October 12, 1931 at Rivers, one of nine children of Alfred and Margaret "Mary" Allen. Bob received his education in Rivers where he lived his entire life. On November 1st, 1951 he married Mary Isabel Ede. Bob had worked at Taylor's Transfer, Oo-Za-We-Kwun Centre and the Department of Natural Resources at Rivers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Khartum Temple Shrine and the Brandon Shrine Pipe Band. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and many people benefited from his efforts. He was also a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver. Bob is survived by five sons and two daughters: Robert William "Bill" Allen of Edmonton; Shirley Gail Chambers of Rivers; Linda Denise Bobyk of Brandon; Kenneth Hugh Allen of McAuley; Gary Alfred Allen of Rivers; James Douglas Allen of Edmonton; Thomas Ward (Shelley) Allen of Brandon; and by ten grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Allen of Rivers; five brothers: Alfred James "Jim" Allen of Brandon; W.H. "Bill" Allen of Rivers; Edward Thomas Allen of Campbell River, B.C.; Gordon John (Lois) Allen of Brandon; David Gerald (Marlene) Allen of Rivers; and one sister, Dixie Ann (Henry) Houston of Russell, Manitoba. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Allen; father, Alfred William Allen; an infant son, sisters, Margaret Ross and Dorothy (Sid) Ramsden; and by sister-in-law Lena Allen. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Rivers, with Rev. Paul Curtis officiating. Interment will follow at Rivers Cemetery.
